Meet The Team

Pam Hires

Office Manager

Many think the claim that Four Seasons is a family business refers only to the husband-and-wife team who own and operate it, but it takes more than that. It also takes support from passionate office staff. Pam was family long before she joined the company. When she was asked to be the Sales and Operations Administration position in 2016, joining the team meant adding another layer to the family relationship. After spending ten years with a medical nonprofit in Philadelphia, Pam moved back to Maryland looking for something new. Pam already had a background in client relations and customer service, but no previous experience in the landscape industry. This meant joining Four Seasons required learning a lot. A strong desire to contribute to the business and her passion for building relationships with people gave Pam a strong foundation to succeed.

The importance of certifications and trainings had long been established by Sarah and Chris, so Pam knew she would need to follow the continuing education path as well. Beginning with OSHA, pesticide and fertilization training, and the Maryland Department of the Environment certification for erosion and sediment control provided a strong foundation. Pam continued with training materials and certification through the National Association of Landscape Professionals to broaden her knowledge of the landscape industry. As she grew into the role of Office Manager, Pam also went through training and classes for QuickBooks and bookkeeping, and eventually went back to school part-time for business management, marketing, and accounting classes.

Pam has a passion for learning, and enjoys continuing to grow, both for herself and the benefits provided to the company. Her greatest joy comes in working with and building relationships with the Four Seasons’ clients. Pam believes in the mission of the company and the vision of the company created by Sarah and Chris. Four Seasons has built a reputation on knowledge and reliability, and Pam views protecting and growing that reputation through friendly communication as her responsibility. Pam knows that every potential client is an opportunity for another long-term relationship for the company. She strives to be a resource that builds the company and earns the trust of its clients. Many people may enjoy their jobs, but Pam knows she is working towards a family legacy, and her love for the company and clients are evidence of that.

Christopher Coleman

Operations Manager

You could say landscaping is in Chris’ blood. His father initially started the landscape company before Chris was born, so it was no shock when Chris started working for the company while in high school and was Superintendent of all crews not long after graduating. Chris spent the following years learning all aspects of the business, and even working for another landscape company for a year to round out his experience and knowledge. When his father passed away in 2013, he and his wife, Sarah, knew they wanted to take over. While some rebranding was involved, their goal was to build a strong company with a focus on high-quality work and knowledgeable solutions, and Four Seasons Nursery & Landscape Services was born.

Chris believes learning and growth never stop and being stagnant is moving backwards. This focus on improvement has led him to seek out certifications and experience to make him a subject matter expert in areas like stormwater management and erosion issues, native and rain gardens, fertilizer and pesticide applications, and safety. He has maintained his pesticide applicator certification for commercial and private use, the fertilizer applicator and business license, his Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC) license, extensive OSHA training, certification through the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals, including the pro certification, buffers certification, and crews certification, as well as Maryland Department of the Environment, State Highway Administration, and Harford County certifications for erosion and sediment control, among many others.

Chris has enjoyed the opportunity to help build the family business with his wife Sarah to bring value in professionalism and education which is shown daily at Four Seasons Landscape & Construction Services.

Sarah Coleman

CEO

Sometimes a person is born into a family business. And sometimes a person marries into one and turns into a passion that takes on a life of its own. Sarah’s father-in-law initially started the family landscape company in the early 80’s. Sarah spent the early years of her relationship with Chris learning the ins and outs of the landscaping business while maintaining a career working as a government contractor in various roles on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), until her father-in-law passed away in June 2013. She knew how important the family business was and felt called to continue the legacy, leaving APG and officially opening Four Seasons Nursery & Landscape Services for business in January 2014.

Sarah believes the cornerstone of the business is certifications and experience, allowing the company to provide knowledgeable solutions. As Four Seasons grew from landscape maintenance and installation into hardscape, drainage, and stormwater management, Sarah knew she had to set the example for continuing education in the field. Sarah began with fertilization and pesticide training, as well as the Maryland Department of the Environment certification for erosion and sediment control. With that foundation, Sarah grew with the company to obtain several certifications through the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals.

Sarah’s passion has allowed her to build a strong and reliable family business in Four Seasons, now doing business as Four Seasons Landscape & Construction Services. As the family business has grown, it has taken on a new life, and her vision led to the opening of Sustainable Landscapes ONE. Running two businesses sounds daunting, but Sarah knows this is the best way to provide a total solution to homeowners, commercial, and government clients. Having a reputation of being reliable and knowledgeable requires always growing and learning and being the resource clients can trust. This trust has been earned over many years by providing clients with a local, family-owned, and operated business she knows will provide quality work, reliable communication, and the ability to solve complex problems through best practices. Sarah’s deep roots in this area have instilled the need to be a steward to the Chesapeake Bay and the community. Whether supporting other local businesses, the local government, charities, schools, or the residents of the community at large, her drive to contribute means Sarah and Four Seasons have become names you can trust.
